One of the main concerns for parents who have just bought a travel cot is the mattress and the comfort is can provide. Fact is, much of the baby’s sleep centers around the travel cot mattresses. From everything from the foam used to whether the covers are washable can really make a huge difference to your purchase decision regarding the mattress.
Sometimes travel cot mattresses will be treated with anti-allergen treatments and are certified eco, meaning the least potential hazard risk to your child from chemicals. The comfort factor is really determined by the foam used. Some manufacturers like Da Vinci and Million Dollar Baby insist on having a quite firm foam which gives maximum spine support for your newbord.
The size of the crib can also be hugely different. There are standard travel cot sizes that some mattresses adhere to, whereas other ones are round cots and therefore need special round mattresses. So you can either measure the diameter of the crib or take an existing mattress in to your nearby nursery department store for comparison so you can easily get a replacement. Some mattresses are quite easy to fold, and we must understand the difference between one made for a standard home crib and a travel cot. The latter is usually foldable type (as you fold the travel cot as well) while the home baby crib’s mattress is invariably non-foldable (or very hard!) but is also much more thick and allows for more padding and a higher quality foam. Get travel cot mattresses that are both comfortable and portable. If you cannot afford some of the luxury mattresses, get one that is affordable as well. The lower end of the baby crib mattress market has really taken off and with more competition than ever, it is easy to find a decent quality travel cot mattress that won’t break the bank.
