Baby cribs are an essential part of every parent’s shopping list. From even before the baby is brought into the world, nursery furniture and baby crib furniture are must-get items. When purchasing a baby crib, one can do so at department stores, online, or at yard sales; the latter is not always recommended due to poor quality baby cribs that can be available, and — who knows? — the crib could have been recalled and you would never know it.
One you get your baby crib, the first thing to do would be to register with the manufacturer if an option like this exists. Generally, manufacturers will contact registered owners if a safety or physical fault or defect has been detect on baby crib furniture so you can exchange it as soon as possible and get back to caring for your newborn.
With baby cribs, one thing to look out for is the mattress. A lot of cribs will include just 1-inch thick pad mattresses, but this can be uncomfortable if you plan to use the crib well into baby’s first year. Many of the nursery cribs have 3-inch pads or even more, but with others you’ll need to purchase separately.
A convertible crib can also be purchased to see baby grow into toddlerhood. Basically, convertible cribs can be used as a regular crib, then as a bed for your toddler a year or two later, and finally a full-size kids’ bed. The full cycle, that is! Great for parents thinking for the future. These types of baby cribs are usually made by high-quality companies like Da Vinci (also known as Million Dollar Baby) and others. If you have a very small apartment or room, getting a mini crib can be a good idea. These cribs do not have thick posts or anything, and are more lighweight — and therefore somewhat less supportive and sturdy — than their full-frame baby crib cousins.
